Earthquake in Southern California

There was an earthquake of 5.1* a few minutes ago in Southern California. It hit near my parent’s, so that’s how I found out so quickly. Subhana’Allah, such things can come at any moment and remind us that we are not in control. Although everything seems to be okay, I really do hope everyone is safe.

*5.5 was the original number.

With a 5.5 chances are everyone is fine, insha’allah.

    alhamdulillah.
It just leaves you wondering, though. Earthquakes are a scary thing and some people can’t handle it, subhana’Allah.

Alhamdulillah, I’m glad that your folks are okay.

Meanwhile, we have had 3landslides in one week. The latest tragic event occurred yesterday morning which buried 14 bungalows and killed 4 people. It is sad, and it is making me angry because it is just another example of greed and negligence in the part of authorities when it comes to approving high risk hill slope development in Malaysia.

It seems these natural disasters are occurring more frequently. Glad your parents are ok, Alhamdullilah.

reminds me of the Ayah in Surat ul-Mulk:

“A amintum man fis-sama’i an yakhsifa bikum ul-ardha fa idha hiya tamur.”

“Do you feel safe from Him Who is in the heaven that He will not cause the earth to swallow you when lo! it is shaken!”

You know something…I thought I felt something at that time, and then chalked it up to imagination. I’m all the way out at the coast, so it makes sense that it was so slight. Alhamdulillah your family was kept safe. Earthquakes really do make you stop and take stock of what you’ve been doing wrong.

    Salaams Umm Layth,

Subhan Allah! Insha Allah everyone was fine. Being from the UK, I have no idea what earthquakes feel like.
