When We Refuse

Bismillah

We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light. (Plato)

When I first read this quote, I imagined myself in front of a mirror looking straight at my sins and then turning away heedless. It’s easy to ignore, to live in our ignorance, to refuse to see the proof that proves we are wrong. We can fight the Hijab and claim there is no proof in the Shari’ah but it is us that don’t care to look deeper and with an open mind, for x and x reasons that we refuse to acknowledge. We backbite and don’t care that we speak ill of others. We eat food without paying attention to whether or not our Lord accepts it. Men beat their wives and don’t change. Women disrespect their husbands in front of their children and don’t see why this is not okay. We can have lose tongues and not care. I don’t know why we fear accepting that we are in need of guidance for every affair. I guess it takes us snapping out of our daydreams and waking up to reality. The fast world we live in makes it hard to be in real life. We are so used to quick fixes that many a times we don’t want to try to change something because it takes determination and patience. We can be afraid of the light in many ways but it all leads back to our egos.

It’s easy to forgive a child who is afraid of the dark but the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of The Light.

Are we afraid of the light?
